Kustom Kovers in Sterling offers window coverings such as Roman shades, cellular shades and roller shades.

STERLING – If standing alone in a big department store doesn’t help you decide how to dress your windows, Kustom Kovers can be of assistance.

The company, which opened Nov. 5, offers several types of window coverings such as Roman shades, cellular shades and roller shades. Customers may order 15,000 choices, which vary in color, transparency, etc.

“I don’t know how you’d get better selection than this,” co-owner Adam Olson said.

Co-owner Stacie Olson, Adam’s wife, offers design consultations to those who aren’t sure what they are looking for. The company will come to homes to take measurements and to go through selection books with customers.

Kustom works with a distributor from North Carolina who has been in the business for 20 years.

The collaboration helps the business secure the lowest prices from the best suppliers, Adam Olson said.

Adam and Stacie are natives of the Twin Cities. Adam, 42, graduated from Newman Central Catholic High School in 1987. Stacie, 43, graduated from Rock Falls High School in 1987.

Customers have the option of paying for installation or installing themselves.

“We think we have better prices and we’ll provide better service,” Adam Olson said.

Orders, which usually take about 2 weeks to come in, may be shipped directly to customers’ homes if they so desire.

Kustom’s shades and blinds come with 3- to 5-year warranties. All the window coverings can be motorized and operated by remote control for an additional cost.

A showroom is located in the same building as Adam’s insurance office at 10 Reins St., which is north of Miller Road off Locust Street. Until a sign is put up on Locust Street, the business can be found by its green door, he said.

Kustom Kovers is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
