Boilermakers fall in Big Apple

Devon Collier took advantage of a rare trip back to the Big Apple and put on a sparkling show for his family and friends.

The junior forward from the Bronx capped a huge homecoming with a career-best 27 points and 14 rebounds to help Oregon State hold off Purdue 66-58 on Friday in the third-place game of the 2K Sports Classic benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project.

"Most guys don't play well when they have a homecoming like this," said Oregon State coach Craig Robinson, the brother-in-law of President Barack Obama. "Devon has proven me wrong four times."

Freshman center A.J. Hammons had 20 points and eight rebounds off the bench for the Boilermakers (1-3). D.J. Byrd added 11 and Anthony Johnson scored 10.

Penn State 55, Providence 52 OT: Tim Frazier had 19 points, nine rebounds and seven assists and Penn State earned an overtime win over Providence at the Puerto Rico Tipoff.

Jermaine Marshall added 13 points for the Nittany Lions (2-1).

D.J. Newbill scored four of Penn State's 12 points in the overtime as the Nittany Lions held on for the win.

E. Michigan 60, E. Illinois 52: Derek Thompson scored 22 points to help lead Eastern Michigan to a win against Eastern Illinois in EMU's "Ice Man" Classic in Ypsilanti, Mich.

Thompson was 5 of 12 from 3-point range. Daylen Harrison scored 18 points and was 11 of 11 at the free throw line. Da'Shonte Riley had seven rebounds for the Eagles (2-1).

Sherman Blanford had 14 points and nine rebounds for Eastern Illinois. Josh Piper added 13 points. Austin Akers had seven assists for the Panthers (0-3).

W. Illinois 67, Buffalo 58: Ceola Clark scored 19 points, Don McAvoy added nine points and a career-high 11 rebounds, and Western Illinois beat Buffalo at the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in Evansville, Ind.

Terell Parks chipped in 12 points and Adam Link had 10 for the Leathernecks (2-1). Parks' three blocked shots moved him into fifth place all-time at Western Illinois.

Will Regan and Javon McCrea had 13 points apiece for the Bulls (1-2), and Jared Oldham scored 11.
