ROCKFORD (AP) – A lawsuit over the closure of the Singer Mental Health Center in Rockford is scheduled to return to court in January.

WNIJ Radio reports that the two sides were in court Thursday. Attorneys representing the state of Illinois filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, which was brought by the Illinois Nurses Association.

The union is strongly opposing the decision to close the facility last month. It’s seeking judicial review of the process to grant a closure permit.

Gov. Pat Quinn signed a budget calling for the facility’s closure as part of cost-cutting measures. The lawsuit is scheduled to return to court Jan. 10.
