DIXON – Sauk Valley Community College will mark World AIDS Day with a program from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday that includes a display of sections of the world-renowned AIDS memorial quilt.

Sauk clubs will have information tables and activities set up to increase awareness of and break myths surrounding AIDS. Participants will be invited to create support ribbons to wear.

The Lee County Health Department will be available to provide information as well as free, confidential rapid HIV testing.

The quilt sections will be on display in the east mall through Friday. Guests will be able to view three sections of the 54-ton handmade tapestry.

The entire quilt, started in 1987 by a small group in San Francisco, now has over 1.3 million square feet of material with more than 94,000 names of people lost to AIDS. It is the largest community art project in the world.

Admission to the program and the exhibit are free.

Call Ana Salgado, 815-835-6432, for more information.
