Amboy, P’town, Fulton win at Oregon

Kayci Howell scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Mary Alice Oswalt added 11 points and four boards for the Comets (2-1), who trailed 26-20 at halftime and couldn’t make up the difference. Rachel Hageman chipped in nine points and Aubree Schmitt dished six assists.

Anne Winston led the Tigers (3-0) with 15 points, and Erin Barten added 14, including three 3-pointers.

Oregon Tournament

Prophetstown 43, Rockford Christian 34: Riley Walters poured in 19 points to lead the Prophets to victory at Oregon.

Cassie Reiley added seven points and Clare Kramer chipped in six for Prophetstown (2-0).

Amboy 38, Polo 26: Brooke Lovgren scored nine of her game-high 14 points after halftime to lead the Clippers to a season-opening win at Oregon.

Aleetra Roberts led the Marcos (1-2) with 13 points, four rebounds and three steals.

Fulton 47, Hall 33: Three players scored in double figures as the Steamers evened their record at 1-1 with a win in Oregon.

Samantha Raab hit three 3-pointers and had 15 points, Morgan Wierema added 11, and Katherine Wayne chipped in 10 for Fulton (1-1), which held Hall to six second-quarter points and three fourth-quarter points.

AFC Tournament

AFC 69, South Beloit 60: The Raiders overcame a 44-point effort from the SoBos’ Emily Kirichkow – including 22-for-26 from the free-throw line – to win their first game at their own tournament.

Sarah Matson paced AFC (1-1) with 22 points, including four 3-pointers. Alisyn Essex finished with 18 points as the Raiders pulled away with a 20-14 edge over the final 8 minutes.

Princeton Tournament

Puntam County 52, Bureau Valley 5: The Storm struggled to score in a loss in Princeton and moved to 0-2 on the season.

Boys bowling

Sycamore 3,691, Dixon 3,663: The Dukes’ second loss was much like the first, as Dixon fell by less than 100 pins in a NIB-12 dual match at Sycamore.

The Dukes rolled five 600+ series, led by Brandon Bonnette’s 639 and Ryan Dixon 631. Josh Rex’s opening 249 was the high game for Dixon, which won the second game to take away 2 points from the match.
