Lew E. Digby

POLO – Lew E. Digby, 65, of Polo, left this earth Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012. He was employed by the Illinois Department of Transportation for 30 years, retiring in 2001.

He was born Oct. 5, 1947, in Dixon, the son of Lew and Nancy (Sanford) Digby. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving three tours in Vietnam during the war. He married Karen Thompson on Dec. 18, 1971, in Dixon. He was a member of the Racing Pigeon Club of the Rock River Valley.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; grandchildren, Logan and Aleck Fassler; his father of Florida; a brother, Michael (Sharon) Digby of Florida; and a sister, Sue O’Brien of Viola, Wis.

He joined in heaven his mother; two daughters, Deborah Digby and Jennifer Fassler; and a grandson, Colton Fassler.

A celebration of Lew’s life will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a potluck at noon, Nov. 30 at Woodcote in Lowell Park in Dixon. Bring a dish to pass. Jones Funeral Home in Dixon handled arrangements.  

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Shining Star Children’s Advocacy Center in Dixon.

Wise saw collapse in support

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."
