DIXON – An online auction to sell breeding lab equipment and a box trailer belonging to ex-Comptroller Rita Crundwell brought $56,450 Wednesday.

The 40-foot Featherlite box trailer sold for $31,500, while the equipment sold for $24,950.

The auction closed the same day that Crundwell, 59, pleaded guilty to federal wire fraud for stealing more than $53 million from the city since 1990 to fund her horse operations and her lavish lifestyle. She will be sentenced Feb. 14.

The U.S. Marshals Service tapped Virginia-based Professional Auction Services to hold the online auction, which started Monday.

PAS also held live and online auctions to sell Crundwell’s herd of more than 400 horses, tack, equipment, vehicles, and trailers.

Those items, plus her luxury motor home and several other vehicles, sold for about $7.4 million.

Proceeds will be held in escrow and will be given to the city when the case is closed.

More personal items likely will be sold in an online auction in early December, details of which are being worked out.
