SPRINGFIELD – Carl C. Dahlquist, passed from this life on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, in Springfield.
He was born Sept. 30, 1947, in Sterling, the son of Neil and Louise (Aldrich) Dahlquist. As a graduate of Lincoln Christian University, he ministered 45 years: Inner city ministry in East Chicago, Ind. (8 years), camp manager of Rock River Christian Camp in Polo (18 years), camp manager of Camp Como, Como, Colo. (11 years) and camp manager of Lake Springfield Christian Assembly (2005 to present).
His legacy lives on in the lives of his family and thousands of youth influenced by his love of God, life of service, intentional generosity, and choice of joy in the midst of challenges.
He is survived by his wife, Etta “Sunny;” his daughter, Angela (Les) Britt of Patoka; his son, Jeff (Ali) Dahlquist of Centralia; and his daughter, Valisha (Matt) Zimmer of Jacksonville; his mother, Louise Dahlquist of Sterling; and sisters, Diana Brewster of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Shirley Scudder of Rock Falls. His 10 grandchildren, Faith, Madison, Makayla, Naomi, Parker, Austin, Levi, Jacob, Katrina and Landon, were a source of immense joy in Carl’s life.
Carl served as director of the Chicago District Evangelizing Association; received the Restoration Award in 1996 from Lincoln Christian University; and in 2010, the Wade Matthews Award for Christian Camp Excellence. He also served the Christian Camp and Conference Association and the Christian Camp Leaders Conference. Carl served as elder and leader at Lakeside Christian Church and various boards of ministry over the years. He always said his goal in life was to be faithful in service to Jesus Christ until the end of this life, and God granted him that desire.
His father; a brother, Gene; and his first wife of 29 years, Shirley, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeside Christian Church, 225 Toronto Road, Springfield. A Celebration of Life Service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. John Morrissette officiating. A private graveside service will be Saturday morning at Phillips Cemetery in Streator.
