Sterling opens with win at Stillman; Rockets fall on road

Stephanie Kester scored 18 points to lead Sterling to an 64-30 win at Stillman Valley in a Sauk Valley Shootout contest on Monday.

The Golden Warriors (1-0) led 20-10 after the first quarter, then put the game on ice with a 34-18 scoring advantage over the next two quarters.

Raquel Romano finished with 11 points and Kiarra Harris added 10 points and nine rebounds for Sterling. McKenna Pearson had nine points and seven assists.

Sherrard 49, Rock Falls 28: The Rockets trailed just 13-11 after the first quarter, but it was all Tigers the rest of the way in a Sauk Valley Shootout contest in Sherrard.

Jordan Giddings paced Rock Falls with 12 points and Morgan Mammosser added seven.

Erie 45, Henry 20: Des Lawson and Paige Rus paced a balanced attack with eight points apiece as the Cardinals rolled to an easy win at the Princeton Tourney.

Also for Erie, Courtney Cobert had seven rebounds, five assists and three points, while Victoria Young added six points.

Polo 56, South Beloit 32: The Marcos raced out to a 31-8 lead by halftime in South Beloit in a NUIC East victory to open the season.

Aleetra Roberts had 20 points, 13 rebounds and three steals for the Marcos (1-0, 1-0). Keeley Mayer added 18 points and eight rebounds.
