September Students of the Month

Senior Natalyn Rood, 17, is Amboy High School’s September Student of the Month. The Amboy resident is the daughter Patricia Rood. Her siblings are Kayla Haenitsch, 20, and Mathew Rood, 16.

Favorite class: I always really enjoy biology classes. Learning about organisms and what makes them work has always fascinated me.

Top teacher: While I love and respect all my teachers, and this was a very difficult question to answer, I had to choose the teacher whom I have spent the most time with and grown closest to – Mrs. Kathy Mekeel. As a band teacher, she has not only taught me how to be a better musician, but also how to be a better student and person. No one else has ever taught me so much about persistence and determination.

Wise saw collapse in support

On pensions, Bivins and GOP far apart

Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, joined with many of his fellow Senate Republicans this week to reject a pension bill sponsored by Democratic Senate President John Cullerton of Chicago. The measure passed 40-16. Bivins had a different reason for his no vote.
