October Student of the Month: Tanner Morse

Senior Tanner Morse, 17, of Sterling, is one of Sterling High School’s October Students of the Month. He is the son of Dustin and Stacey Morse of Sterling; his brothers are Turner Morse, 14, an eighth-grader, and Trey Morse, 13, a seventh-grader, both at Challand Middle School.

Favorite class: Calculus. You learn to solve complex life problems with math.

Top teacher: Mike Gottemoller, precalculus. He’s really good at explaining things. He could take a difficult concept and make it seem easy.

Extracurriculars: Football, swimming/diving and baseball; National Honor Society; Rotary Club; and service learning.

After graduation: I hope to attend the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and possibly study aerospace engineering.

Best friend: Andrew Blackburn. We’ve known each other since third grade, and we’ve always had many of the same classes and played the same sports. He’s just a pretty cool guy.

Favorite musical group: Eric Church.

Favorite actor: Adam Sandler.

Favorite movie: “Act of Valor.”

Favorite TV show: “SportsCenter.”

Hobbies: Going to my little brothers’ sporting events (they play football, basketball and baseball) or reading.

Favorite outdoor activity: Baseball.

Favorite food: Steak – medium rare – and potatoes.

Biggest fear: Being the only person left alive.

Pet peeve: Talking while other people are talking.

Haunts: Buffalo Wild Wings.

I’m in the dictionary next to: Outgoing. I like to think I work pretty hard and I’m not scared to try anything.

Secret twin: I’ve never been told I look like anyone famous. People say I look like my dad.

Personal trivia: I’ll talk to anybody, but I don’t like to start conversations.

Dream job: Naval pilot.

Trading places: Bryce Harper (outfielder for the Washington Nationals). I just want to know what it feels like to have that much talent at such a young age.

Trading spaces: Somewhere with a nice, warm beach.

Read this: I’m a big “Harry Potter” fan. You just don’t want to stop reading.

Favorite website: Yahoo!.

What would you do if you had $100,000? I’d take care of my parents.

What do you wish your high school offered? Flight school.

What’s a tip you would give freshmen for making high school life easier? Put in the work early so you don’t have to work so hard later on.

Shout out to: Elroy Wylde, the service learning coordinator at Sterling High School.
