Three cheers for a special charity group

There are charity events and then there are Team Underwires fundraisers. We wish to extend heartfelt appreciation to Team Underwires for their last 5 years of devotion and caring for the women of the Sauk Valley.

The CGH Health Foundation is grateful for this year’s contribution of $50,000 made recently to our Women’s Cancer Prevention Program. What an unbelievable outpouring of kindness and support shown by members of this group, their supporters and members of the community.

Since 2007, the local group of volunteers has spent hundreds of hours planning and preparing multiple special events, including the very popular motorcycle ride. This year, nearly 800 people joined the Aug. 18 pink parade through northern Illinois in support of breast cancer awareness. Funds raised sponsor mammograms, diagnostic services, and physician visits for just over 400 under-served women in a five-county area served by CGH Medical Center.

Special gratitude is extended to major sponsors: Candlelight Inn, Douglas & Frye Motorsports, Everything Properties LLC, Salon Business Coaching and Workman-Harley Davidson.

Team Underwires has donated $199,000 to the CGH Health Foundation in total – wow. As one member said: “It is more than an event. What we all keep in the forefront is not what we do, but who we are helping.”

Team Underwires Board of Directors members are Sandi Ivey, president; Jane Workman, vice president; Christy Eastman, treasurer; Cris Scribner, secretary; and Angie Delhotal.

Thanks again to Team Underwires. Their community spirit and dedication to community wellness is to be congratulated.

Note to readers – Joan Hermes is the executive director of CGH Health Foundation.
