State volleyball roundup: Riverdale needs three sets to take third in 2A

Keith Country Day wins 1A title

After being edged in the middle set, the Riverdale Rams put an exclamation point on the Class 2A third-place match Saturday at Redbird Arena on the Illinois State University campus in Normal.

Riverdale beat Edwards County 25-16, 24-26, 25-12 behind 11 spike kills by Jess Corson and 29 assists by Hannah Nimrick.

Deer Creek-Mackinaw (38-1), which beat Riverdale (33-4) in the semifinals by taking the last two sets, defeated Dakota (37-5) in the 2A title match, 25-23, 25-21. Dakota ousted Oregon in a sectional title match.

Kyleigh Block led Deer Creek-Mackinaw with nine kiills and 10 points.

Class 1A

Keith Country Day outlasted Mt. Pulaski 25-21, 18-25, 25-22 in the Class 1A title match.

Imean McGary and Adeja Lamber led the way for Country Day (33-7) with 11 and 10 spike kills, respectively. Marisa Morgan fueled their attack with 26 assists and had 19 digs.

Class 3A

Ali Frantti’s match-high 16 spike kills weren’t enough for Richmond-Burton, which fell 25-21, 25-20 in the 3A title match.

Molly Haggerty spiked 12 kills for St. Francis (37-5). Kara Russell set 22 assists for the Rockets (37-5).

Class 4A

Behind Cara Mattaliano’s 21-spike kill barrage, Benet overcame a first-set loss to beat New Trier 21-25, 25-22, 25-17.

Hannah Kaminsky set 33 assists and had three aces for Benet (40-2).

Brittani Steinberg had 17 spike kills for New Trier (39-2), which got 32 assists from Taylor Tashima.
