Mary Lou Smith

PROPHETSTOWN – Mary Lou Smith, 82, of Prophetstown, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at Illini Restorative Care in Silvis. She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband in the Prophetstown area.

Mary Lou was born Aug. 27, 1930, in Moline, the daughter of Harry R. and Lena M. (Griffin) Whipple. She married Robert A. Smith on March 24, 1951, in East Moline. He preceded her in death in 2008. She was a member of Leon United Methodist Church in Prophetstown.

Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Smith of Moline, Susan Odquist of Bronston, Ky., and Bonnie (Steve) Smith of Tampico; one son, George (Dorothy) Smith of Albany, N.Y.; one sister, Carol (Raymond) McDonald of Geneseo; three brothers, Richard (Nina) Whipple of New Hampshire; Harvey (Shirley) Whipple of Green Rock and Ronnie (Cora) Whipple of Silvis; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Steven Smith in infancy; one sister, Minnie Holman; and five brothers, Leroy Whipple, Roger Whipple, Harry Whipple, Frannie Whipple and John Whipple in infancy.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home, 320 Lafayette St., Prophetstown. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Leon United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rolland Hayag, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Leon Cemetery in Prophetstown.

A memorial has been established.
