MENDOTA – Marie A. Zinke, 89, of Mendota, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at Mendota Community Hospital.

Marie was born Feb. 9, 1923, in West Brooklyn, to Ernest and Anna (Miller) Ponto. She married William Zinke on Feb. 9, 1940, at St. Paul Evangelical Church in Clarion Township. He preceded her in death in 1997. She was a member of Compton United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Gerald (Donna) Zinke of Mendota and Jeff (Jackie) Zinke of West Brooklyn; two daughters, Janet (Larry) Barker of Mendota and Judith (Don) Pierce of Paw Paw; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She also was preceded in death by four brothers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Merritt Funeral Home in Mendota, with the Rev. Ken Foster officiating. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery in Mendota.

Memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice.

On pensions, Bivins and GOP far apart

Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, joined with many of his fellow Senate Republicans this week to reject a pension bill sponsored by Democratic Senate President John Cullerton of Chicago. The measure passed 40-16. Bivins had a different reason for his no vote.
