Tre Bryce Whittaker, 18, of Sterling; 7:56 a.m. Friday at 11th Avenue and East LeFevre Road; speeding in a school zone; posted driver’s license.

Michael A. Lopez, 23, of Rock Falls; 11:55 a.m. Friday at West Fourth Street and Avenue L; no insurance; posted driver’s license.

Sean M. Lopez, 18, of Sterling; 9:40 p.m. Friday, 1106 W. Fourth St.; Whiteside County warrant for failure to appear; posted bond.

Casey A. Van Rycke, 34, of Erie; 8:50 a.m. Saturday at Avenue H and West Third Street; speeding; posted driver’s license.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH: The next meeting for the Propheter and Wallace Park neighborhood watch groups will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall Annex in the old Blockbuster building, 200 W. Third St. in Sterling.

Dixon Police

Lesa L. Fenton, 44, of Dixon; 3:45 p.m. Friday in the 100 block of Douglas Avenue; dog running at large; issued citation.

Gayle E. Silva, 42, of Sterling; 6:45 p.m. Friday, in the 1600 block of South Galena Avenue; retail theft less than $300, driving while license suspended; posted bond.  

Denis G. Meiners, 60, of Dixon; 3:53 p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of North Galena Avenue; possession of open alcohol in public; issued citation.

Samantha A. Smoot, 18, of Dixon, 12:42 a.m. Sunday in the 600 block of North Brinton Avenue; Ogle County failure to appear warrant for a traffic offense; posted bond.

Kerri D. Umhoefer, 22, of Dixon, 1:50 a.m. Sunday in the 700 block of North Galena Avenue; DUI alcohol, expired registration and driving in wrong lane; posted bond.

State Police

Rafael Crisosto, 21, Franklin Park; 2:25 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. Route 30 and Yorktown Road; speeding, no valid driver’s license; posted I-bond.

Kenta Shimizu and Michael P. Bandurski; both 20, of Chicago; 1:31 a.m. Thursday at state Route 40 and Interstate 88; both charged with possession of 10 to 30 grams of marijuana; Bandurski also charged with possession of a fictitious driver’s license; both posted bond.

Erna M. Erlenbach, 48, of Rochelle; 9:13 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 39 in Lee County; expired registration, no insurance, use of registration stickers not authorized for vehicle; posted I-bond.

Wise saw collapse in support

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."

On pensions, Bivins and GOP far apart

Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, joined with many of his fellow Senate Republicans this week to reject a pension bill sponsored by Democratic Senate President John Cullerton of Chicago. The measure passed 40-16. Bivins had a different reason for his no vote.
