"We asked them to compete and play hard for 40 minutes," Groce said. "We asked them to play unselfishly. I think we took strides."

After a 14-14 tie at the start, Illinois pulled ahead with a 12-0 run and never let up.

Groce had kept his starters under wraps this week and said he still was tinkering with rotations late in week.

The starters were Tyler Griffey and Nnanna Egwu in the post along with guards Paul, Abrams and D.J. Richardson. He substituted often, using an eight-man rotation.

Wise saw collapse in support

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."
