Sarah Thompson had 13 kills to lead the Dakota Indians to a 25-20, 25-21 win over Edwards County in a Class 2A semifinal match Friday at the state volleyball tournament at Redbird Arena in Normal.
Thompson also had 14 digs and two aces as Dakota (37-4) advanced to Saturday's state title match against Deer-Creek Mackinaw. The championship match will start at 1:55 p.m. The Indians won the Class 1A state title in 2011.
Jaycee Cleaver added 28 assists for Dakota, which eliminated Oregon in the Byron Sectional championship match.
Whitney Beck had 14 kills for Edwards County (35-6).
Deer Creek-Mackinaw def. Riverdale 20-25, 25-16, 25-9: Riverdale, champions of the Three Rivers Conference, fell in a Class 2A semifinal, despite taking the first set.
Hannah Nimrick, the Three Rivers player of the year, had eight kills, 19 digs and 15 assists for the Rams (32-4).
Kyleigh Block and Lauren Anderson had 13 and 12 kills, respectively, for Dee-Mack (37-1).
Riverdale will play Edwards County in the third-place match at 12:25 p.m. Saturday.
St. Francis def. Champaign Centennial 21-25, 25-20, 26-24: St. Francis rallied after dropping the first set to beat Champaign Centennial in a Class 3A semifinal match.
Maddie Haggerty had 13 kills for St. Francis (36-5), which will play Richmond-Burton in the championship match at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
Rachel Jones had 11 kills for Champaign Centennial (36-6), which beat Rock Falls at the 3A Galesburg Supersectional. Kara Johnson added 10 kills.
Centennial will play Jacksonville in the third-place match at 4 p.m. Saturday.
