U of I Twitter site sets new record

Published: Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 1:15 a.m. CST

The University of Illinois Extension took Twitter by “storm” Oct. 29 during hurricane Sandy.

Stephanie Porter, plant diagnostic outreach specialist at the U of I Plant Clinic, hosted the hour-long #gardenchat session.

Also on hand were Extension educators Candice Miller, Richard Hentschel, Kelly Allsup, Rhonda Ferree and Andrew Holsinger.

The U of I led #gardenchat set a new record with an audience of more than 60,000.

Miller uses her own unique publication name and avatar on all of her social media sites. Northwest Illinois Extension Horticulture signifies her horticulture education efforts in six counties in northwestern Illinois, including Jo Daviess, Stephenson and Winnebago (Unit No. 1) and Boone, DeKalb and Ogle counties (Unit No. 2). Her avatar consists of a photo of butterfly weed.
