Dukes drop home opener to Streator
Dixon won the third game, but dropped the first two and the match in a dual against Streator on Thursday at Plum Hollow.
The Dukes (1-1) beat the Bulldogs 1,180-1,141 in the final game, but fell 3,383-3,340 in total pins.
Andrew Hamburg led Dixon with a 615 series and a 226 high game, while Ryan Dixon added a 583 series and Brandon Bonnette rolled a 582.
Streator’s Caleb Wilson had a 648 series, including games of 223 and 233.

League considering two proposals
The league is reportedly considering two proposals from the NHL Players Association for a new collective bargaining agreement.
The offers hinge on giving the NHL a new revenue-sharing structure and a “make whole” concept to honor existing contracts.
The league would get a 3-year “phase-in” window with “make-whole contracts” in order to reach a 50-50 split in revenues.
Hawks’ Hjalmarsson agrees to play in Italy
Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson has agreed to play for a team in Italy.
According to the website for HC Bolzano, Hjalmarsson will join the team Friday.

Prep QB ejected for imitating Newton
A high school quarterback from Charlotte, N.C., was ejected from a state playoff game last Friday for imitating Cam Newton’s touchdown celebration by pretending to rip open his jersey, Superman-like, after a scoring run.
Game officials determined that Jalan McClendon’s act was unsportsmanlike.

A Lakers fan attacked a pair of Utah Jazz fans with a can of pepper spray after L.A.’s 95-86 loss Wednesday night, according to a Salt Lake Tribune report.

Lattimore has surgery
South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore underwent successful surgery to repair a damaged right knee.
The school announced Thursday that Lattimore had the procedure 6 days ago.

USC players mum on ball-deflating rumors
As they entered the practice facility to set up the field for Thursday morning’s workout, USC Coach Lane Kiffin and football student managers declined to comment about the latest controversy surrounding the Trojans.
The Pac-12 Conference reprimanded and fined USC because a student manager intentionally deflated, below NCAA-regulated levels, several balls used by the Trojans in their game against Oregon, the school announced on its website. Deflated footballs apparently can be easier to throw and catch.
The student manager was relieved of his duties.
