Published: Friday, Nov. 9, 2012 1:15 a.m. CDT

STERLING – The Sterling Police Department is looking for a few good young men and women to join its Law Enforcement Exploring program.

There will be an informational meeting at 6 p.m. Nov. 26 at the City Hall Annex, 200 W. Third St. (the former Blockbuster building).

The program, a branch of the Boy Scouts of America, accepts anyone ages 14 to 20, although a 14-year-old must have completed the eighth grade. Anyone from Whiteside County or the surrounding area is welcome to join.

The program helps young people gain insight into a variety of law enforcement careers and provides hands-on career activities that promote their growth and development.

Explorers also can participate in ride-alongs with Sterling police officers.

Call Officer Maggie Ellmaker, 815-632-6640, for more information.
