October Student of the Month: Abbie Brenner

Senior Abbie Brenner, 17, of Sterling, is one of Sterling High School’s October Students of the Month. She is the daughter of Steve and Andrea Brenner of Sterling; her brother is Aaron Brenner, 19, a student at Butler University, and her sister is Aviva Brenner, 10, a student at Lincoln Elementary. The family has two dogs and two cats.

Favorite class and teacher: AP Literature. Susan Lawson is a really good teacher. She goes over the curriculum really thoroughly, she’s really helpful and she knows what she’s talking about; she’s really smart. I love to read, too.

Extracurriculars: Swimming, track and field, B.L.I.N.D. (Building Lasting Impressions that Never Die) and Greater Rockford Temple Youth group.

After graduation: Going to either Southern Illinois University or Bowling Green State University and majoring in fashion merchandising.

Paycheck: I work for the Sterling Park District, taking admissions for games at Westwood Sports Center, and I teach swimming lessons at Duis Recreation Center. Neither job is too hard, but neither one is boring, either.

Best friend: Charli Wike. We’ve been friends since we were little, and we’ve always been on swimming together. She’s really fun to be around.

Favorite musical group: Of Monsters and Men.

Favorite actor: Channing Tatum.

Favorite TV show: “Pretty Little Liars” or “Revolution.”

Favorite food: Lasagna.

Favorite place to shop: CherryVale Mall in Rockford.

Biggest fear: Snakes.

Pet peeve: When people chomp their gum.

Haunts: Arthur’s Deli. We like to go there for lunch sometimes.

I’m in the dictionary next to: Happy. I’m just always happy. I always have a smile on my face. I never really get mad, and I get over stuff pretty fast.

Secret twin: Marion Cotillard.

Personal trivia: I love to sew. I’ve been sewing since third grade.

Dream job: President of the United States.

Trading places: A professional dancer. I just think it would be fun and really exciting.

Trading spaces: Israel. It’s a part of my heritage, and it seems like there are so many beautiful places to see there.

Read this: “My Sister’s Keeper” by Jodi Picoult. It was really sad, but really good – very heartfelt.

Favorite website: Facebook or Twitter.

Favorite trend: Colored denim.

What would you do if you had $100,000? I’d put it toward college expenses.

What do you wish your high school offered? A pool at the high school.

What’s a tip you would give freshmen for making high school life easier? Start the year with your grades up because that affects the rest of your years in school.

Shout out to: My mom!
