DIXON – James R. Rowland, 88, of Dixon, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at Franklin Grove Nursing Center. He worked in the construction trade for Lindquist Construction in Dixon and Propheter Construction in Sterling for many years before retiring. After retirement, he worked at Franklin Grove Nursing Center.

He was born Sept. 21, 1924, in Henderson, Ky., the son of Doc and Zena (Dixon) Rowland. James served in the Army during World War II in the European Theatre. He married Henrietta Edwards on April 26, 1958, in Dixon. She preceded him in death on Dec. 5, 2009. 

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth (Elaine) Haynes of Joliet and Ron (Pamela) Haynes of Lansing, Mich.; three daughters, Janice Haynes of University Park, Annette (Edward) Hatchett of Dixon and Zena Neal of Kansas City, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, Shelly, Nisa, Kady, Jack, Todd, Angela, Patricia, Dawn, James, Natalie, Ebony, Jazman and Constance; and 12 great-grandchildren.

James also was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Rowland; three brothers, Hurtis, Charles and Jesse Rowland; and one sister in infancy.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m., Saturday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. Cremation rites will be accorded.  

A memorial has been established.
