Don Moffitt will return for an 11th term in the Illinois House of Representatives.

The Galesburg Republican defeated Democratic challenger August “Gus” Junior of Atkinson in the 74th House District race Tuesday.

Moffitt collected 28,539 votes to Junior’s 16,912 for 62.8 percent of the district total. All results are unofficial.

The district includes all of Mercer County, parts of Knox, Henry, Bureau and Lee counties, including Harmon, part of Amboy, Sublette, Walton and Maytown.

Moffitt will represent Lee County for the first time since he was elected in 1992, due to the reconstructing of districts.

“It’s always a relief when you win,” Moffitt said. “I have just as much passion now as when I first ran.”

Moffitt, who has worked as a teacher and farmer in Knox County, said he is focused on balancing the state’s budget, creating jobs and addressing the pension deficit.

Sometimes readers ask for more good news in the paper. They say we in the media only cover the bad. But one person's positive is another's negative.
