Turkey giveaway and Santa letters at Coloma Park District

ROCK FALLS – Entries for the 31st annual Turkey Give Away Contest, sponsored by the Coloma Township Park District, will be accepted through Friday. 

All contestants must guess the number of corn kernels in a jar in the Coloma Township Park District administrative office.  The contestant guessing the closest to the exact number will receive a $25 gift certificate from the park district. 

The park district’s annual Halloween Coloring Contest ran from Oct. 1-26.  Children 3 through 12 color pictures. The pictures were judged on originality and quality of coloring. All winners received a placement ribbon and a Coloma Township Park District T-shirt. 

They also received various prizes depending upon the placement in their age category.

First- through sixth-place coloring contest winners were: 3- and 4-year olds: Elizabeth Lombardo,  Allie Freas, Joanna Rabadan, Trail Stonitsch, Sydney Giffon and Bennett Williamson; 5- and 6-year olds: Rais Tefiku, Zoe Henson, Carli Kobbeman, Faith Sheley, Damien Mix and Nicolette Udell; 7- and 8-year olds: Noelia Ibarra, Josylin Seaworth, Ellie Wasson, Katie Witherow, Jacee Sigel and Alaina Schreiner; 9- and 10-year olds: Emma Lutz, Damarys Garcia, Lizbeth Rodriguez, Angela Arrezola, Elise Moeller and Emma Watts; 11- and 12-year olds: Logan Warren, Jacob Wilkinson, Grace Stahr, Taya Velazquez, Zayne Johnson and Alexandralo Gomez.  

■ The administrative office will close at 5 p.m. Nov. 21 in observance of Thanksgiving Day. The office will open at 9 a.m. Nov. 26 with normal business hours.

■ Word from the North Pole is that the park district has been named the local distribution point for answers to “Letters To Santa Claus.”

All boys and girls regardless of age can write to Santa Claus, in care of the Coloma Township Park District, P.O. Box 562, Rock Falls, IL 61071 or the letters can be dropped off at the office at 508 E. 11th St. All letters will receive a reply and should include full name and address printed clearly. Each child’s letter must include a 45-cent stamp. Letters to Santa will run from Dec. 1-14.
