Murder defendant’s nursing license suspended

DIXON – Tiffany Fassler, who is charged in the death of her 7-year-old stepson, has agreed to an indefinite suspension of her nursing license and will not seek to have it restored until her case is resolved or she’s served her sentence if convicted.
That’s according to a consent order signed Oct. 25 by Fassler and her attorney and released Monday by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
Fassler also must relinquish all her licensure paperwork, including copies of wall certificates and wallet cards.
If she is found not guilty, she can ask to have her license reinstated, IDFPR spokeswoman Sue Hofer said.
Fassler, a registered nurse since October 2004, worked at Dixon Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center at the time of her arrest. It wasn’t clear Monday whether she still was working there. The center’s administrator, Theresa Blair, said she could not comment on past or present employees.
Prosecutors say Fassler kicked Colton Fassler in the chest on Dec. 30, 2010. He hit his head on a metal vanity and suffered serious brain damage. He died nearly a year later.
In February, the IDFPR filed a one-count complaint against Fassler, charged in June 2011 with aggravated battery of a child.
Then a Winnebago County coroner’s jury ruled Colton’s death a homicide, and in September, a Lee County grand jury indicted Fassler on first-degree murder and four counts of aggravated battery of a child.
She faces 20 to 60 years in prison if convicted. She is free on bond and has a Nov. 14 pretrial conference.
