Kinzinger cruises to an easy victory

DIXON – In a landslide, Republican Adam Kinzinger was elected to serve as the 16th District congressman Tuesday.

According to unofficial results, he beat Democrat Wanda Rohl, a hospice worker from the Ottawa area.

Kinzinger, R-Manteno, unseated Rep. Don Manzullo, R-Egan, in the April Republican primary. The newly redrawn 16th District now includes all of Lee County.

With 62 percent of the precincts reporting, Kinzinger had 109,596 votes, or 61 percent, to Rohl’s 69,161 votes, or 39 percent.

In Lee County, Kinzinger won with 9,241 votes, or 62.71 percent, to Rohl’s 5,495 votes, or 37.29 percent.

“I feel very good at this time,” Kinzinger said in an interview. “It’s very humbling – 700,000 people made the decision; you’re the person that is going to take their voice to Washington, D.C.

“It’s also very sobering; I’m looking forward to getting to work tomorrow.”

Rohl said she was proud of what she and her team accomplished.

“We weren’t even expecting to get where we are,” she said.

The DeKalb Daily Chronicle contributed to this report.
