Kelly Picken, 42, of Sterling, was taken to CGH Medical Center with an arm injury after the SUV her daughter, Dessire Miller, 17, of Sterling, was driving, struck a utility pole in the 900 block of First Avenue about 7:38 a.m. Friday.

The pole was sheared off at the base.

According to Sterling Police, Miller was driving north when she lost control. The SUV struck the pole and rolled onto the driver’s side. Miller’s 1-year-old son was in a safety seat in the back of the SUV and was not injured, police said. Miller was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
