Tonight’s Knicks-Nets game postponed

The league postponed today’s game between the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets because of the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. A new date and time were not announced.

The league also announced the Knicks’ game against the Miami Heat on Friday at Madison Square Garden would be played as scheduled.

Rockets ink Harden for 5 years, $80 million

The Houston Rockets agreed to terms with newly acquired guard James Harden on a 5-year, $80 million contract extension.

Harden, the NBA’s
Sixth Man of the Year last season, was traded by the Oklahoma City
Thunder on Saturday with Cole Aldrich, Daequan Cook and Lazar Hayward for Kevin Martin, 2012 first-round pick Jeremy Lamb and several draft picks.

Danks hopes to be ready by spring

An upbeat John Danks said Wednesday he could be ready when White Sox pitchers and catchers report to spring training in early February.

Danks, who had surgery Aug. 6 to repair a capsular tear and minor debris around his rotator cuff and biceps, said he made 20 throws from 45 feet and 15 tosses from 60 feet Monday, and slightly increased his reps Wednesday in Austin, Texas.

Danks, 26, was limited to nine starts and didn’t pitch after May 19.

Angels trade
Santana to Royals

The Kansas City Royals
acquired pitcher Ervin Santana along with cash considerations from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in exchange for pitcher Brandon Sisk.

The Angels exercised the $13 million option on Santana’s contract before dealing him.

The 29-year-old righty is coming off a disappointing 2012 campaign, finishing 9-13 with a 5.16 ERA over 30 starts, but went 4-3 with a 3.63 ERA over the final 2 months of the regular season.

Sandusky transferred to maximum security

Former Penn State assistant football coach and convicted pedophile Jerry Sandusky was transferred Wednesday to a
Pennsylvania state
maximum-security prison.

The 68-year-old
Sandusky will be confined to a prison cell for 22 to 23 hours of each day at the 1,800-bed State Correctional Institution in Greene, Pa., located in the southwestern part of the state, about 25 miles from Sandusky’s hometown of Washington, Pa. The prison houses most of Pennsylvania’s death-row inmates.
