Donations sought for benefit for Dixon man

AMBOY – Donations are needed for a benefit for Brian DeArmitt, 20, of Dixon, paralyzed in a swimming accident this summer.

The benefit will be held from 3 p.m. to midnight Nov. 24 at the Lee County 4-H Center, 1196 Franklin Road.

There will be a dinner and music from 3 to 7 p.m., a silent auction until 6:30 and a live auction at 7 p.m., along with a 50/50 raffle.

Admission is $20 per person.

Brian suffered a spinal cord injury that left him a quadriplegic when he dove off a dock into shallow water on the Rock River on June 24 while boating with family and friends. He was found unconscious and helpless on the river bottom, organizers said in a news release.

He spent 2½ weeks in the intensive care unit at OSF Saint Anthony Hospital in Rockford, 4 weeks at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore and now is being treated at The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.

Proceeds from the benefit will help the family pay medical expenses and make their home handicap-accessible.

In addition to items for the auction, monetary donations may be made at The First National Bank in Amboy, which has branches at 1314 N. Galena Ave. and 728 S. Crawford Ave. in Dixon, and 220 E. Main St. and 301 E. Joe Drive in Amboy.

They also may be mailed to The First National Bank in Amboy, c/o Lisa Goy, 220 E. Main St., Amboy, IL 61310.

Make checks payable to the DeArmitt family.

Call Goy, 815-677-0331, or Renee Kaleel, 815-857-2528, for more information.
