Move forward with vision at Dixon Schools

Published: Friday, Nov. 2, 2012 1:15 a.m. CST

As a Dixon Public School District board member, I know the school board has several goals, objectives and an ongoing vision strategically targeted directly for the growth and success of our children. If anyone questions school board priorities, I ask you to put yourself in a position to notice.

Our monthly meetings are open to the public to receive firsthand information on what the school board’s priorities are. Not many citizens get the opportunity to gain the perspective of what takes place at our public schools.

Inside our classrooms, we have the most caring, passionate, dedicated and self-driven teachers Dixon could have. The quality of education our students receive is of the highest. Test scores are on the rise, and programs have been tailored for individual students to best fit their needs.

Dixon Public School Board is more than capable of focusing on education inside the classroom while improving our children’s future through a sports and activity center outside the classroom. Let’s not define our community by our past; let’s prepare our community for our future instead.

If not now, when? If not us, who?

It’s time. It’s the perfect time for Dixon to take a stand to move forward with growth and opportunity for our children and community. Let us not look into the future with fear, anger and hesitation because of our most recent setbacks.

Let us look forward with excitement and be a community determined to grow and create opportunity. Let’s bring Dixon back by moving forward with vision.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
