Vote Ottens and Young for experience

Published: Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012 1:15 a.m. CDT

Susan Ottens is running for Whiteside County circuit clerk, and Dawn Young is running for Whiteside County recorder. As sheriff, I have worked closely with both and have an understanding of their duties and the complexity involved in their offices. These are not jobs that someone without any knowledge or experience could walk into and be successful.

Susan has worked in the circuit clerk’s office for 24 years, the last 2 years as the circuit clerk. Her office handles all court cases, fines, fees, orders, and civil and criminal proceedings. She has to maintain the accuracy and integrity of those important records.

Dawn has been with the recorder’s office for 31 years, the last 16 as the recorder. Her office handles all public land records in Whiteside County. The accuracy and integrity of public land records are vital.

Both women have continued to seek the latest in technology and innovations to maintain the accuracy and integrity of their offices. They both are not only dedicated but also work alongside their staff. If they weren’t dedicated and didn’t put in extra hours every week, additional staff would have to be hired.

I happen to know the candidates who are opposing them in the election, and they are very fine people. However, the vote you cast on Election Day should not be taken lightly.

Please vote for the clear choice of experience. Vote Susan Ottens, circuit clerk, and Dawn Young, recorder.
