Team’s great year deserved more coverage

I am disappointed about our local sports coverage. The Erie-Prophetstown Panthers football team and organization has not been getting the coverage they deserve.

The E-P team beat a state championship team, the Morrison Mustangs, and there was a small column that was written up about the game. The E-P team beat them by one point. This is huge news and was a really close game. Then, when the E-P team had a blowout game against Kewanee, 41-0 score, there was no article in the paper at all.

But, when the E-P team played against Newman, there was a full-page article. I don’t disagree; the Newman vs. E-P game was also a good game. In fact, the E-P team was tied with Newman at halftime. The Panthers gave the Newman team “a run for their money.” Perhaps this game received more coverage because it was against Newman? Makes some of us believe it was.

As I write this, the E-P football team and organization will be heading for the playoffs. What a great accomplishment for the entire team and Sauk Valley community. The Erie-Prophetstown football team and organization deserve to be recognized for their hard work and determination.

Watch where you sit

On Tuesday, the Lee County Board voted 12-9 to approve a proposed wind farm in the southwestern part of the county. That happened after 27 sessions of a public hearing held by the Zoning Board of Appeals. Is everyone wiser for it?

Good or bad? Depends on who you ask

Sometimes readers ask for more good news in the paper. They say we in the media only cover the bad. But one person's positive is another's negative.
