Former Packer to present at Oregon

Former Green Bay Packer Cecil Martin, of the NCSA Athletic Recruiting Network, will present the seminar “College Recruiting Simplified on Nov. 13 at the
Oregon High School Gym.

Martin will explain to parents and student-athletes the importance of establishing athletic and academic goals while seeking collegiate opportunities.

Unanimous All-BNC honor for two Hawks

Oregon seniors Ian Holley and Jake Kleveland were unanimous selections to the Big Northern West all-conference team.

Seniors Matt Ajvazi, Tom McCormick and Mark Schmidt, as well as junior Troy Pudlas, also received all-conference honors for the Hawks. See the full list on B3.


BNC all-conference team announced

Rock Falls seniors Morgan Mammosser, Linsey Brown and Jordan Giddings, and Oregon senior Devyn Absher and sophomore Delaney Mahoney, were all named to the Big Northern West first team.

Hinrich practices, will play tonight

Kirk Hinrich practiced with no issues Tuesday for the second straight day, and his strained right groin has progressed enough that the veteran Chicago Bulls guard plans to start in today’s regular-season opener versus the
Sacramento Kings.

Hinrich suffered the injury in an Oct. 23 exhibition against Oklahoma City. He skipped the Bulls’ final tuneup on Oct. 26.

Pacers’ Granger out indefinitely

The Indiana Pacers’ All-Star forward Danny Granger was ruled out indefinitely Tuesday because of soreness in his left knee.

The team announced an update would be provided once Granger receives a second opinion.


Bears’ Jeffery could return by Nov. 11

Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery will miss Sunday’s game at Tennessee, but the rookie playmaker could be available for the Nov. 11 game with the Texans or the Nov. 19 game at San Francisco.


Nine arrested for gambling on games

Leaders of the South Florida Youth Football League, which showcased the region’s budding talent, were arrested Monday for exploiting the players’ talent and gambling on games.

Fort Lauderdale police began surveillance in 2011 to end the betting and drinking, drug use and fighting that a police spokesman said was happening at games at the time.

The alleged winnings totaled more than $100,000, according to an arrest warrant.
