Schrauth: ‘Ready to act; you will know where I stand’

John "Jack" Schrauth, Dixon

To the voters of Lee County Board, District 3:

I made up my mind to run for a board seat when I saw how many current members were willing to waste the county’s last dime on a gas station with secret owners.

Few supporters did any research, or they would have learned fuel sales have dropped in half since 2007 and were unconcerned about secret owners, if they even existed. Such behavior was appalling and unacceptable. I will research proposals.

My first priority is property rights. With wind and Rock Island Clean Line, my position is that people are free to do what they wish on their property as long as it has zero effect on their neighbors. No eminent domain for RICL.

I have studied landfill issues and toured a leading-edge facility in Rochester, Minn., (Olmsted County) to be prepared to lead on this issue.

I oppose tax increases. I am a tea party member and believe we’re taxed enough already.

I am for a mandates budget. This budget would first include only what the law mandates the county to do. After that is presented, we can vote to add the remaining funds to whatever departments or projects that can get a majority vote of the board.

I am ready to act, and you will know where I stand. Please consider me on Election Day. Thank you.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
