Candidates take out petitions for 2013 election

ROCK FALLS – The 2013 race for city offices in Sterling and Rock Falls is on.

In Rock Falls, four candidates had taken out petitions for city clerk as of the end of the day Monday. They are Pam Martinez, Suzanne Dir, Edward Mulvaney and Eric Arduini.

Current City Clerk Bill Wescott is running for mayor against incumbent David Blanton.

In Ward 1, Alderman Mark Vandersnick is running for re-election. In Ward 2, Brian Snow is running. Jim Schuneman and Rod Kleckler are running in Ward 3, and John Watts is running in Ward 4.

No petitions have been taken out for city treasurer.

In Sterling, eight people have taken out petitions for two aldermen-at-large positions. They are incumbents Linda Marley and Amy Viering, and David Kendrick, Jacob Mango, Javier Padilla, Leonard Parks, Christopher Schuchard and John Stauter, City Clerk Marie Rombouts said.

The election will be April 9.

To run for office

In Sterling, the filing period in Sterling is from Nov. 19 to Nov. 26.

In Rock Falls, the filing period is from Dec. 17 to Dec. 24.
