DIXON – Arthur P. Mills, 92, of Dixon, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at his home.
He was born Sept. 1, 1920, in Sublette, the son of Joseph and Katherine (Happ) Mills. He had been a boiler operator employed by Commonwealth Edison for 31 years, before retiring in 1982. He also had been a bus driver for Butterbaugh Bus Co. for many years. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon, the Lee County Historical Society and American Legion Post 12. He served on the board of directors of the Green Hills Girl Scouts Council for several years.
He married Jane Slothower on May 24, 1947, in Dixon.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Andrea Mills of Dixon and Barbara (Dennis) Mitchell of Pardeeville, Wis.; two grandchildren, Laura Mitchell and Ross Mitchell; one brother, Ralph V. Mills of Dixon; and two sisters, Velma Slothower of Rockford and Sister Mary Innocence Mills, Order of Saint Francis, of Frankfort.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Joseph Mills; and two sisters, Margaret Ruth Snap and Verna Mae Scott.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., with a Scripture service at 7 p.m., Thursday at Jones Funeral Home in Dixon. A prayer service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Morrissey officiating. Burial, with military honors by the combined veterans group, will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon.
Memorials have been established to the Sister Lorraine Scholarship Fund at St. Anne School in Dixon, Serenity Hospice & Home and the Alzheimer’s Association.
