Senior Ryan Schaab, 17, of Dixon, is Newman Central Catholic High School’s September Student of the Month. He is the son of Ben and Sheila Schaab, 43 and 42, of Dixon; his siblings are Carly Schaab, 14, Emily Schaab, 11, and Lucas Schaab, 6.

Favorite class: Calculus. I’ve grown to like math. I like the challenge.

Top teacher: Diana Wade, a math teacher. She was my math teacher freshman and sophomore years. She’s just really good at what she does and makes it very easy to learn.

Extracurriculars: Football, basketball, tennis, Key Club, math club, Kairos leader.

After graduation: I’ll probably attend University of Illinois and possibly be pre-med.

Paycheck: In the summer, I worked at the warehouse of Moore Tires in Rock Falls. It was nice. It was better than detasseling, which I did 4 years.

Best friends: Kyle Moore, Luke LeMay and Lucas Terveer. We all play football and basketball together. We have the same interests. We’re pretty relaxed. We like to have fun.

Favorite musical group: Zac Brown Band.

Favorite actor: Will Smith.

Favorite move: “The Dark Knight Rises.”

Favorite video game: NBA 2K13.

Favorite food: The spicy chicken sandwiches here at school.

Favorite sports teams: Chicago Bears and University of Notre Dame football.

Biggest fear: Failure.

Pet peeve: People who sing and aren’t good at singing.

What kind of music makes your skin crawl? Anything slow. I like upbeat music.

Haunts: Buffalo Wild Wings and Sauk Valley 8 Cinema.

I’m in the dictionary next to: Quiet. I like keeping my thoughts to myself, I guess.

Personal trivia: I have a lot to say. I just don’t always say it.

Dream job: President of the United States.

Trading places: Derrick Rose. I wish I could play basketball like him. He seems like a nice guy. He’s not just about making money. He wants to help those in need.

Trading spaces: I’d go to an island like the Bahamas, somewhere nice and quiet and relaxing. I’d relax for a long time and not have to worry about anything.

Read this: “What Though the Odds” an autobiography by Haley Scott DeMaria. She was a swimmer at University of Notre Dame and she was paralyzed in a bus accident, but she was able to walk again and swim again, too. It’s very inspirational and kept me interested the whole time.

Favorite trend: Wearing Nike shorts or sweatpants. I don’t like to be too dressed up.

Favorite website: Facebook or ESPN fantasy football. I’m in three fantasy football leagues.

What would you do with $100,000? Share it with my family. I’d buy a couple of tickets to the Super Bowl. I’d give some to cancer research.

What do you wish your high school offered? I wish there were more Advanced Placement classes.

What’s a tip you would give freshmen for making high school life easier? Get your hard classes out of the way as soon as you can. Enjoy every second, because it goes by so fast. Try not to have any regrets.

Shout out to: My brother, Lucas.
