Former Illini, Predator Richmond jailed

Former Illini basketball standout and Sauk Valley Predator player Jereme Richmond was sent back to Lake County Jail on Thursday after officials said he failed several conditions of his probation for his January guilty plea on charges of unlawful use of a weapon.

Richmond tested positive for marijuana use on Oct. 19, failed to comply with curfew and did not attend orientation for domestic violence treatment.

Richmond, 20, played last season for the Predators
in their first season in the
Premier Basketball League.


White Sox promote Hahn, Williams

After aiding Ken Williams for 12 seasons, Rick Hahn will be announced as
Williams’ successor as the Sox’s general manager at an 11 a.m. news conference today at U.S. Cellular Field.

Williams was elevated to president of baseball operations.

Plesac interested in Cubs TV job

Former Cubs pitcher Dan Plesac is interested in the team’s vacant TV analyst position, according to a team source.

Plesac, like Rick Sutcliffe, who has also expressed his interest in the job, is already under contract.

Sutcliffe works for ESPN. Plesac is in the first year of a multi-year contract with MLB Network.


Packers WR Jennings to undergo surgery

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings will have surgery on an abdominal tear Tuesday in Philadelphia in hopes of returning to the field later this season.

Tebow voted most overrated by peers

A Sports Illustrated poll of 180 player revealed Jets quarterback Tim Tebow to be the league’s most
overrated player by a 34-percent margin.

New York’s starting quarterback Mark Sanchez, came in second with 8%.


Hurdler Jones makes U.S. bobsled team

Two-time Olympic hurdler Lolo Jones was one of
24 athletes announced
Thursday as members of the U.S. bobsled team.

Jones and Olympic sprint gold medalist Tianna Madison, who was part of the world record-setting 400-meter relay team in London, made the bobsled team as a push athletes. Their job is to help start the sled down the icy chute before jumping into the backseat for a bumpy ride to the finish.


Shark falls from sky at tourney

A leopard shark fell from the sky and landed near the 12th tee at the San Juan Hills Golf Club in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. on Monday.

The 2-foot long shark was discovered by an on-duty course marshal, who loaded it onto his golf cart and drove it to the clubhouse, where he put it in a bucket of water. It was released into the Pacific Ocean, about 5 miles from the course.

Experts think the shark was snatched out of the ocean by a bird because it had puncture wounds near its dorsal fin.
