ROCK ISLAND – James L. Mathis, 64, formerly of Prophetstown, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012.

He was born Oct. 15, 1948, in Morrison, the son of James A. and Edna M. (DeMay) Mathis. James was a 1966 graduate of Prophetstown High School and a graduate of The Morrison Institute of Technology in Morrison. He retired as a draftsman for Sear’s Manufacturing Co. in Davenport, Iowa.

Surviving is his mother, Edna Mathis of Prophetstown; his sister, Jane Mathis of Prophetstown; his special friend, Kent Manley of Rock Island; his nephew, Chris Mathis of Bettendorf, Iowa; and two great-nephews, Cody Yaklich and Cole Mathis.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. held on Tuesday at McDonald Funeral Home, 45 Grove St., Route 78 North in Prophetstown. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Prophetstown. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.

A memorial will be established.
