G. Powell Cunningham

OREGON – Gordon Powell Cunningham, 91, a lifetime resident of Pine Creek Township in Ogle County, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at Serenity House in Oregon.

He was born March 21, 1921, the son of Gordon Nelson Cunningham and Lois Marie (Powell) Cunningham.

He was a 1939 graduate of Polo Community High School and a World War II Army veteran. He farmed in the Polo area.

He married Jean Walker on Feb. 14, 1948. He is survived by his children, Steve (Rita) Cunningham of Sugar Grove, Jane (Tom) Hamilton of Polo, Mary (Ken) Toms of Forreston, and Dan (Toni) Cunningham of Aurora; son-in-law, Larry Moats; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Joanna Hopkins, and a daughter, Ruth Moats.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Polo Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Pine Creek Christian Church on Lowell Park Road in Polo.  

Memorials may be made to the Ogle County 4-H Foundation and Evergreen Cemetery.
