We are the parents of four children ranging in age from 6 to 14. They are all actively involved in a variety of sports here in Dixon.
Unfortunately, because we don’t have a facility able to accommodate multiple sports, many families are forced to travel to neighboring communities to participate in sporting events or use their athletic facilities for training purposes.
We have been to Naperville, DeKalb, Byron, Oregon, Geneseo and Sterling, to name a few.
Why is it that all our neighboring communities have these beautiful sports and recreation facilities, and Dixon doesn’t offer the same?
The sports/recreation complex is not just for the students, parents and grandparents of today; this 1 percent sales tax referendum is an investment in our future.
Building this facility promotes future economic growth in our community and provides a home for generations to come. The economic impact of a new sports/recreation complex could be vital to our community. Instead of sending everyone out of Dixon to participate in team sports, recreational classes and performing arts, let’s bring them to Dixon to show them what we have to offer.
It’s time that this dream of a sports/recreation complex in Dixon becomes a reality. I would encourage you to consider the benefits of a sports/recreation complex and vote yes on Nov. 6.
