Schwenneker: Goal is to ‘make a difference on a local level’
I am running for Whiteside County Board, District 3. I’ve been married for 20 years to my husband, Jim; together we have three children. Shawn is 16, KD is 12 and Nicki is 6. I also have two bonus (step) children; Jennifer lives in Annawan with her husband, John, with their two boys; and Kyle is in the Army stationed in Hawaii with his wife, Lynnette, and son.
Jim and I moved from East Moline to Erie in late 1995. In 2000, we started a part-time welding and fabrication business, which has seen its share of ups and downs, especially over the past few years. We have 12 employees.
I believe in personal responsibility with a strong work ethic to earn what you receive. I feel these values, among others, have been declining over the years, more so in recent years.
A little over 18 months ago I stumbled upon a conservative Christian radio station called AFR, which is affiliated with the American Family Association. The politics hooked me, and then God reeled me in. This led me to pay more attention to politics and the need to get involved.
I believe in our Founding Fathers and the goal they set for this country – to be the greatest on Earth. Granted, there have been struggles along the way; however, I feel we are in danger of losing the very liberties our government was set up to protect. I believe “We the People,” including myself, have not been doing our civic duty to elect those who will uphold our Constitution.
I may not be able to make a mark in national or statewide issues, but with small business experience and strong conservative and Christian values, I can help to make a difference on a local level.
