Mauricio Granados
STERLING – Mauricio Granados, 71, of Sterling, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. He was a laborer at Gate City Steel for more than 30 years, retiring in 2001.
Mauricio was born July 19, 1941, in El Salvador, the son of Domingo and Maria Granados. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling. He first married Matilde Carrillo-Melendez in 1964 in Chicago. She died Sept. 4, 1986. Mauricio then married Evangelina Barajas on Dec. 29, 1990, in Sterling. She died July 11, 2012.
Survivors include, from his first marriage, one stepdaughter, Mary Harrison-Outlaw of Snohomish, Wash., and two stepsons, Rudy Melendez of Rodeo, Calif., and Mario Melendez of Sterling; from his second marriage, one stepdaughter, Jeannette Barajas, and one stepson, Richard Barajas, both of Sterling, and several nieces and nephews.
