Buckley: ‘Representing the wishes of the citizens’
My name is Bernie Buckley, and I’m running for re-election to the Lee County Board, District 3. District 3 consists of approximately all of the south side of Dixon.
I have lived in Dixon all my life and attended Newman High School and Sauk Valley Community College. I’m a Republican and live on the southeast side with my wife, Sue, and my daughter, Loren.
I have more than 20 years of experience in budget responsibilities and working with business budgets and financial planning. My job on the board is to oversee the financial operation of the county and the rules and regulations that govern it. As a board member, I’m helping with the budget issues and employee salaries and benefits.
The county needs to look at increasing revenue through business development and job creation and by lowering budgetary expenses. Currently, I serve on the solid waste committee, which deals with landfill issues.
I have supported and/or helped accomplish the following:
1) An ordinance to help local contractors and service providers become competitive bidders when bidding on building and service jobs;
2) A resolution that was passed that the county had suffered economic hardship as a result of the Rock River fish kill a few years ago and was entitled to restitution;
3) A budget that supports county services; and
4) A wind farm expansion in Lee County.
I feel with a smaller county board, its performance will become better. We are working hard to increase the amount of information on our website.
I have a good understanding of how county government operates, and I feel my job includes representing the wishes of the citizens in my district.
