Dear Sterling community:
I write to tell you how grateful I am that our car crash happened in Sterling. Yes, I did say grateful.
My husband was driving, our two boys were in the back seat, and we were headed west on U.S. Route 30 toward Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for the weekend. We ended up in a serious car accident at Emerson Road – two ambulances, two vehicles involved, very serious.
Everyone in our car is OK, and the other driver is fine, too.
My thanks goes out to the many people who helped us at the crash site – the motorcycle driver who called 911, the witness who took time to make sure we were OK and directed traffic, the state trooper, and the ambulance personnel.
A special thanks goes out to the people at Slim and Hanks. Not only were they courteous and helpful, but they were quick and efficient with our car rental, and very concerned about our well-being.
A special note of gratitude for Deputy Sheriff Billy Murray. He handled the situation with compassion, professionalism and humor. He saw that my younger son was quite upset and took care to put him at ease. Over this past weekend of Oct. 20, Billy went above and beyond to make sure our questions were answered. We got everything out of our totaled vehicle, and we were cared for.
I can’t tell you how lucky you are to have such compassionate people in the town of Sterling. We truly felt like we were being taken care of, and that really makes a difference when you’ve just been in a serious accident with your family.
We are grateful to you, and we thank you all so much.
