Suburbanite grateful for help after auto crash

Dear Sterling community:

I write to tell you how grateful I am that our car crash happened in Sterling. Yes, I did say grateful.

My husband was driving, our two boys were in the back seat, and we were headed west on U.S. Route 30 toward Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for the weekend. We ended up in a serious car accident at Emerson Road – two ambulances, two vehicles involved, very serious.

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."
