DIXON – Loveland Community House is online.

Information about the center now can be found at lovelandcommunityhouse.org, said Steve Wilson, who took over as executive director July 16. Getting an online presence was one of his goals, he said.

The website offers virtual tours of the rooms, to increase awareness of the ways the historic house can be used. The website also has contact information for caterers, which could be useful for those who want to host a party or reception at the house.

“Pretty much anything you’d want to know is there,” Wilson said.

The website, created by Tony Winstead, has been up about a month, said Wilson, who wants other businesses and agencies to put a link to it on their sites. Blackhawk Waterways, which promotes tourism in Lee, Ogle, Whiteside and Carroll counties, already has done so.

The house also has a Facebook page. Wilson is trying to find out who created it, so he can get the password and administer the page.

At 513 W. Second St., Loveland is not quite in downtown, and is “off the beaten path,” so it must make an effort to stay visible, he said.

He hopes the online presence will attract more visitors, so it once again can become a true community house where people pass their leisure time. When the house has more foot traffic and more volunteers, it might expand its hours, he said.

“I want to bring this building more to what it was originally: a community house where people can just stop in,” Wilson said.
