Aurora man admits hoarding after birds found
AURORA (AP) — A 57-year-old Aurora man admits he is a hoarder after his home was condemned when police found hundreds of finches, canaries and other birds in the residence.
Dave Skeberdis tells the Aurora Beacon-News (http://bit.ly/OZtr1X) he estimates he had 200 birds in his townhome. A contractor called police on Friday after finding dead birds in the home. Skeberdis says he rescued a parakeet named "Doc" seven years ago and since has bought and adopted more birds. He says he was "obsessed" but that he's "a regular person."
City officials say the home was littered with garbage and bird feces. A fire department team tested the air quality in the home.
