ROCK FALLS – A consignment shop carrying plus-sized women’s clothing will open Thursday at 303 First Ave.

Plus Size Boutique will be a judgment-free zone, owner Judy Randall said.

“We want it to be a place where women can come and feel better when they leave,” she said. “We want it to be upbeat, inspirational.”

The boutique will offer lower-cost items to fit mature women, Randall said

“We just decided this was a great economic time to do this. A lot of us who are retired are a little fluffier. It’s an economic way to recycle our clothes and get new ones.”

She also will offer accessories, shoes, purses and jewelry. Those interested in consigning clothes are asked to bring them freshly laundered and on hangers.

Randall, 62, of Rock Falls, is a semi-retired nurse and a 1968 Rock Falls High School grad.

Plus Size Boutique will be open from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Amboy Thrift Store is moving

AMBOY – The Amboy Thrift Store will move to 59 S. East Ave. as soon as the new location is cleaned, owner Deanne Hoy said.

The building at 110 E. Main St. was sold; she closed there on Sept. 1, Hoy said.

Hours will stay the same: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Outback Country Store expands

STERLING – Outback Country Store got too big for its britches, so it’s expanding.

The craft and antique store inside Headhunters hair salon, 3009 E. Lincolnway, has expanded to its own room with its own door, so customers don’t have to enter through the salon, said Peggy Squires, 52, who owns both businesses.

The store is filled with “treasures that I find,” she said, including lots of country and primitive finds.

The store is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday. Call 815-626-2330 for more information.

Good or bad? Depends on who you ask

Sometimes readers ask for more good news in the paper. They say we in the media only cover the bad. But one person's positive is another's negative.

My kind of game

I would have gladly paid to take in the game I covered Saturday morning in Morrison.
